I’m currently reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood for school, and now that I’m reading the news about Congress and the potential shutdown if the Tea Party doesn’t back down, the crazy things that show up in partisan portrayals of the government situation, and the ideological wars against women and anyone who doesn’t have a few million (or at least a few hundred thousand) in the bank, I’m genuinely terrified of the parallels between Atwood’s dystopia and modern American reality. HELP. This way of living and conducting politics absolutely must change, but I don’t know what to do or where to put my trust.
